Statement on Fort Washington Collegiate Church

On April 7, 2025, after three years of hard and intentional work on sustainability options, the Collegiate Church Consistory determined that the ministry and worshipping life of Fort Washington Collegiate Church is no longer sustainable and will close at the end of June. The members of FWCC are members of the Collegiate Church, and the resolutions passed explicitly welcome them to join at one of our three remaining congregations.

Following that meeting, the Fort Washington Collegiate Church Board issued a statement to their congregation, which is contained below. In the statement, you will feel the sadness and loss that is upon us.  You will also see some of the wisdom for how we may go about these days.

In faith,

Elder Danita Branam, Chair

The Rev. William Critzman, President

The Rev. Stan Sloan, Managing Director

The Rev. Dr. Michael Bos, Senior Minister

The Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis, Senior Minister

Communication released on April 8, 2025, to the Fort Washington Collegiate Church Community

What’s up Fort Washington Family,

We want to take a moment to share a difficult update following last night’s vote by the full consistory. With the heaviest of hearts, we must let you know that the decision was made to close our church, our spiritual home and community anchor.

We know how deeply painful and disappointing this news is. As your board, we are grieving right alongside you. This church has been a place of love, healing, faith, and belonging for so many, and we understand the heartache this brings to our Fort Washington family and neighborhood.

In the days ahead, we ask for your grace and compassion, not only for each other, but also for your board, as we mourn and begin navigating this next chapter together. Please know that our commitment to you remains strong. We will continue to move forward together, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

Today, we invite you to P.A.U.S.E. (pause action until serenity ensues) with us. Take a breath. Allow space for whatever emotions rise. We don’t have to rush. We’ll walk this road together, with faith, love, and hope guiding us.

Thank you for your unwavering support and love. We are so grateful for each one of you.

This is the way,

The Fort Washington Church Board
